Our Streets!
“Our Streets!” is a series of installations that seeks to confront the overlooked relationship between people and the urban environment, questioning how our streets—once spaces of connection, interaction, and vitality—have been dominated by heavy traffic, oversized SUVs, and the unchecked sprawl of the motor industry. The street, a once communal and human-centered space, has been surrendered to machines, leading to the erosion of the pedestrian’s right to move, to breathe, and to simply exist in public spaces.
The vehicles that loom large in our cities are no longer objects of convenience—they are symbols of a society where speed and power are prioritized over human scale, where pollution, noise, and accidents are normalized. Through a visual interplay of scale, movement, and intervention, this piece demands a reckoning with the ways motor vehicles dehumanize and pollute our shared environments.
By unexpectedly occupying the cracks in the street caused by heavy use the installations ask the public to consider their loss of agency in urban spaces and the need for reclamation. And to understand their right to overturn the weight of a system that prioritizes efficiency and profit over the well-being of its citizens.
At its core, this installation is an urgent reminder: the street belongs to us. It is an invitation to reimagine urban spaces where pedestrians and cyclists can flourish. To reclaim the street is to reclaim our right to cleaner, safer, and more human spaces.
